THIS IS WHY!
They won't just go quietly into the night, even though the Obamasiah has "Hussein" as his middle name. Electing this bumbling fool did nothing to improve our situation on the world stage. His recent idiotic idea about talking to "moderate Taliban" was met with derision by the Taliban. Their official spokesman called it a "lunatic idea" and observed that there is no such thing as a "moderate Taliban." Uh duh!
One of the Afghans I work with asked, "Who are these moderate Taliban? I've never heard of such a thing. Is this something like a moderate murderer? This is insane!"
The Obamasiah's talk about an "exit strategy" is defeatist. In typical leftist fashion it is cover for moving the goal post. Change the definition of victory so that expectations are lowered. When we meet the more easily attained "exit strategy" goals, pull the plug and run.
The Taliban are NOT winning here, but we could be maneuvering ourselves into snatching defeat from the jaws of victory. The Taliban are NOT resurgent, but they are reslient. There is a difference. If we cut and run, if we cede this country to these animals, these scenes will be repeated again.
Revolutionary Association of the Women of Afghanistan (RAWA) Photo.
Beatings of women in the streets were an everyday occurrence under the Taliban.
RAWA Photo. The execution of Zarmeena.
After enduring years of brutal abuse, Zarmeena killed her husband while he slept.
She was sentenced to death.
Under Islamic Law, the victim's family may forgive the murderer.
Her husband's family forgave her.
However, since they had already announced the execution
and invited thousands of guests to attend, the Taliban refused to spare her
in violation of the very Islamic Law they pretend to follow.
Zarmeena's seven children were forced to watch the execution.

Complex topic - correct, but you profess a very simplistic view. And slugging the US president as you go, does also not earn you any respect either! This one at least you don't have to be ashamed of on the world stage.
There's another problem with this blog: you are the arbiter of what will show and what will not. hardly someone willing to have an open exchange of ideas. I do realize, there are some real nuts out there, but most of us can differentiate.
back to simplistic: 9/11 was a once in a lifetime "lucky strike" for those who perpetrated this horrible deed, and cannot be taken as a harbinger of things to come, nor as an excuse to "go nuts" as many of your overzealous "officials" are doing ever since. little Caesar's coming out........
the "war in Afghanistan", to come to the topic at hand, is another poor example of abusing power, in order to demonstrate to all and sundry, what great nation the US really is. a stroke of 'genius' was the ability to shame many of the rest of the world powers, to engage as well. does the fact that the next "real" power, namely China, is not part of the deal? very shortsighted of those hawks who pushed your country into this war.
fight for women's rights - give me a break, how simple do you think your readers really are??
I suggest you brush up on Afghan history, and see how they really operate, and will again, once we're gone.
If you were really concerned with all the inequities in the world, I suggest you focus on the following:
There have been over 9 million refugees and internally displaced people from conflicts in Africa. Hundreds and thousands of people have been slaughtered from a number of conflicts and civil wars. If this scale of destruction and fighting was in Europe, then people would be calling it World War III with the entire world rushing to report, provide aid, mediate and otherwise try to diffuse the situation.
Why aren't we there??
Paloma,
You don’t even have the guts to identify yourself properly, why should I give your opinion any respect?

My name is right there by my picture. “Complex Topics” (plural) is the name of the blog. Unlike you, I have a profile!
And slugging the US president as you go, does also not earn you any respect either!
Do you think I care if I have the respect of an anonymous coward?
This one at least you don't have to be ashamed of on the world stage.
What a joke! A collection of Wal-Mart DVDs in NTSC format as a gift to the UK Prime Minister and you think I’m not ashamed? An “overcharge” button presented to the Russians where not only was the wrong word used but it wasn’t even spelled in Cyrillic? An iPod with the Narcissist-in-Chief’s teleprompter speeches given to the Queen of England? Genuflecting to the King of Saudi Arabia? Not ashamed? Hah! Barack Hussein Obama has absolutely no record of any real accomplishment other than getting elected (once by complete legal trickery in getting opponents challenged off the ballot) and writing two narcissistic autobiographies! The depths of my disgust with this puffed-up sock puppet know no limits right now!

It’s my blog Paloma. You can comment or not. At least I have the guts to identify myself. And as you can see, unless you post something utterly vulgar I do allow your asinine comments. Start your own blog if you like.

You clearly miss the point. Had 9/11 not happened, we would not be in Afghanistan and there never would have been the backing for the war in Iraq either. No matter how people like you and our limp communist media try to paint it, BOTH operations started out with overwhelming public support in the US. I really don’t give a rat’s ass if the French or Russians didn’t like it, they weren’t the ones attacked.

How clueless are you? I’m in Afghanistan! I see Chinese officials here every day, they are very much involved in reconstruction here. Where do you get your information, the leftist sleaze blogs?
fight for women's rights - give me a break, how simple do you think your readers really are??
I didn’t say that women’s rights were the reason we are here. However, this country will descend back into the primeval chaos if we give up and the women here will be major victims. Pull your head out of your butt and read what I said. As we are here and made a commitment to these people, we owe it to them to stick it out. But the only commitment that matters to you leftist dorks it your commitment to denigrating the US, so your comment does not come as a surprise.
I suggest you brush up on Afghan history, and see how they really operate, and will again, once we're gone.
I’ll wager I’ve forgotten more Afghan history than you will ever know. I’m living here in Afghanistan! I don’t live on a base. I work with Afghans every day! Where are you? Sitting on your fat ass in front of your computer trolling blogs to spew your uninformed crap?

Why aren't we there??
I’m not at all “concerned” about all the inequities in the world. Had the 9/11 operation not been planned here, though I’d feel sorry for the Afghans, I would not have advocated sending troops here. As Al Qaeda and the Taliban gave us good reason, by attacking us first not once, but multiple times: 1993 WTC, the USS Cole, the Embassies in Africa, 9/11…all planned in Afghanistan, I believe we were justified. And I really don’t care if you disagree, that’s your opinion…I’m not changing mine.
Africans did not fly airliners into office buildings in the US, nor did the planning for such an operation happen there. I’m certain that if such a thing had happened, we’d be there in greater force too.
More to the point, you loonies like to complain about where we do intervene, which we do in our interest. Then say we should be intervening elsewhere, like Africa, where it may not be in our interest. We can’t intervene everywhere, nor would I want us to even if we had the capability.
If we shed our blood, it should be in our interests, not anyone else’s.
